When looking through the specifications of a hyperbaric chamber (Hyperbaric Chamber), it is easiest to get dizzy at “pressure value”. If you’re staring at a device labeled 2.0 ATA and ready to shell out the cash, don’t rush. Taking a few minutes to get through the following can save you a lot of money and even save your life.
What exactly is 2.0 ATA? Don’t be fooled by math problems
Many people think that 2.0 ATA is simple “with double the pressure”, but it is not. This “A” in 2.0 ATA represents absolute pressure (Absolute). It is zero with absolute vacuum.
The atmospheric environment we live in has 1 atmosphere of pressure. So, when a cabin advertises that it can reach 2.0 ATA, the pressure gauge on its door actually shows only about 101.325 kPa (or 14.7 psig).
Why do we have to stick with the number 2.0? Because it is a “hard threshold” for clinical treatment. According to the official UHMS (Undersea and Hyperbaric Oxygen Society), true clinical hyperbaric oxygen therapy typically requires a pressure jump of 2.0 ATA and requires breathing medical-grade oxygen in a hard compartment. If the pressure is insufficient, it may just be a high-end “health pod” and not clinical treatment.
Is the “2.0” in the sales mouth absolute pressure or gauge pressure?
When consulting customer service or sales, don’t ask about the price in the first sentence. Ask this first: “Does your 2.0 refer to absolute pressure or gauge pressure?”
The difference between the two algorithms is a full atmosphere (almost 14.7 psi). Some manufacturers like to play word games, using the gauge pressure as absolute pressure. If you believe me, the pressure capacity of the equipment you buy back may be greatly reduced. Taking 1.5 ATA and 2.0 ATA, it looks like a difference of 0.5, but the material strength requirements and structural design behind it are completely two orders of magnitude. Remember: stress levels are not numbers that are better, but if you’re looking for clinical results, the numbers have to be realistic.
Remember this: 2.0 ATA has almost no “soft”
This is common sense in the industry: what can withstand the pressure of 2.0 ATA can basically only be a hardware cabin (Hard Chamber).
These cabins are typically made of medical-grade stainless steel. Whether it’s lying down, sitting, or a walk-in for multiple people like a small room, the material must be firm enough as long as the pressure reaches the 2.0 level.
Single hard cabin: You can either inflate the cabin directly with oxygen or inflate it with air and then put on a mask.
Multi-person hard cabin: To prevent fire, the cabin must be filled with compressed air, and oxygen must be given separately through a breathing mask.
There’s a big pit here: those fabric, plastic “software pods” or “portable pods” on the market typically have physical limits between 1.3 and 1.5 ATA. If someone sells you “a 2.0 ATA soft oxygen chamber”, listen to me and just block it. This kind of cabin, forced to pressurize, is not only useless, but also like a time bomb that could explode at any moment.
Before talking about money, check whether the configuration is correct
The price range for the 2.0 ATA hardware compartment is very wide. It’s meaningless to just look at the reserve price; it depends on what you’re buying.
Let’s go through the current market accepted price:
Horizontal hard cabin with a diameter of 75cm: about US$40,000;
85cm diameter: Quotes usually jump to around $47,000;
The spacious version with a diameter of 90cm: I can hardly take it without 50,000 US dollars.
These prices typically bundle a 10L oxygen concentrator, integrated air conditioning, or a high-efficiency cooling system. If the diameter difference is 5 centimeters, the price difference could be several thousand. So when comparing prices, you have to put the pressure caliber, cabin structure, supporting appliances, and even after-sales service on a plate, otherwise you think you got a bargain, but you actually bought an “empty shell”.
The “life-saving” list before placing an order cannot be missing
To get this 2.0 ATA big thing to land safely, you have to ask the manufacturer for these things. Don’t be fooled by a few refurbished promotional pictures:
Check ID: To enter the US market, you must have an FDA 510(k) record and the product code must be CBF. Also, to understand the difference between FDA Approved (approved) and 510(k) Cleared (licensed), these are two different things and the legal liability is far less.
For the main party: Who signed the contract? To whom should the money be given? Who will repair it after the sale? Don’t let the machine get stuck in its slump, the sales are missing, and no one can even come to the door to drive screws.
Get the cards: Before paying the deposit, you must have the formal quotation (official quotation), technical specification sheet, installation environment requirements, fire protection information, and other paper documents.
One last nag: When buying a hyperbaric oxygen chamber, performance always comes before price, and qualifications always come before advertising. Without hardware and compliance certifications, even the cheapest “2.0 ATA” is nothing more than an expensive inflatable toy.
