If you are preparing for hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT), then knowing the safety precautions is definitely the most important step to ensure the effectiveness of treatment. Even in a special environment full of oxygen, as long as you strictly abide by the operating specifications, the safety of the entire treatment process is very high.

Any electronic equipment, lighters and objects containing batteries must be strictly eliminated; pure cotton clothing must be worn to prevent static electricity; and it is strictly forbidden to use any petroleum-based skin care products, cosmetics or hair gel, because these are flammable hazards in an oxygen-rich environment. All of our procedures are performed in strict compliance with the Medical Facility Code, the “gold standard” the hyperbaric oxygen industry. As long as you cooperate with our team and eliminate these potential risks, you can fully focus on the rehabilitation itself, and leave the rest of the equipment maintenance and treatment control to our professionals.
Dismantling The “Fire Triangle” Principle In Hyperbaric Oxygen Environment
We set up these stringent security procedures, really not to deliberately add to the crowd, but based on the basic principles of the “fire triangle” in physics. In order to produce an open flame, elements must be present at the same time: fuel, heat source (ignition material) and oxidant (oxygen).
In the hyperbaric oxygen chamber, the oxygen concentration is much higher than that of ordinary air. Oxygen itself is a very strong accelerant, so anything that may generate electric sparks, even a little static electricity generated by the friction of synthetic fabrics, may become the fuse of disaster. The purpose of following the specification is to keep the cabin environment in an inert and absolutely safe state at all times.

It Is Forbidden To Bring Items Into The Cabin

For safety, be sure to thoroughly check your pockets and belongings before entering the cabin. The following items are strictly prohibited:
- Electronic equipment: mobile phones, tablets, smart watches, headphones, even if it is turned off, because the internal electronic components may still produce electric sparks.
- Items with batteries: These include hearing aids, portable medical devices or electronic cigarettes.
- Ignition: lighters, matches, flint tools.
- Jewelry and watches: Although they are not necessarily combustion aids, they are prone to friction or static electricity.
Clothing And Personal Care
In hyperbaric oxygen therapy, what you wear and what skin care products you use are directly related to the safety of treatment.
1. “Pure Cotton Law”
Synthetic fibers such as polyester, nylon and spandex are very prone to static electricity. In an oxygen-rich environment, even tiny electrostatic sparks are a huge safety hazard. We require all patients to wear clinic-provided or pre-approved 100 per cent cotton clothing. Pure cotton material has good air permeability and almost no static electricity, which is not only for safety, but also to make you feel more comfortable in the cabin.
2. Rejection Of “Petroleum-based” Products
Any substance containing oil or grease has a very low ignition point and is extremely flammable. Before treatment, please be sure to do the following, do not smear:
- Body lotion and moisturizer
- Foundation and all kinds of cosmetics
- Hair spray, styling spray and hair oil
- Alcohol-based perfume or cologne
If you are not sure about the skin care products you use on a daily basis, please ask the technicians directly before treatment, and do not make your own claims.
Clinical Safety Management

While “fire protection” is the most visible security effort, medicial team monitors clinical safety at all times to protect against two main risks:
- Barotrauma: you may feel a change in pressure in your ear during the process of being pressurized, just like the feeling when an airplane lands. We will guide you on how to balance the pressure in the ear by “pinching your nose” or yawning or swallowing to avoid ear discomfort or eardrum damage.
- Oxygen poisoning: Although the probability is extremely low, very few people may experience symptoms such as muscle twitching or nausea when breathing pure oxygen for a long time under high pressure. But rest assured that our technicians will precisely control the depth (pressure) and duration of treatment to ensure that you are always within a safe range, thereby completely eliminating this risk.
Ask the Staff First
As long as you strictly adhere to these security regulations, our certification team can devote all their energy to the most important thing-your recovery and treatment.
If there is any uncertainty before entering the cabin, even if it is a small object, please be sure to ask the staff first. We stand here to ensure that your treatment is both effective and absolutely safe.
