1.5 How much pressure does ATA represent
ATA is short for atmospheres absolute, which refers to the absolute pressure calculated as the absolute vacuum at zero. 1 ATA is a standard atmosphere of pressure, with an exact value of 101.325 kPa, which is approximately equal to 14.6959 psi. On this basis, the absolute pressure of 1.5 ATA is 151.9875 kPa, or approximately 22.04 psia.
Here too, the absolute pressure and gauge pressure should be distinguished. The gauge pressure is the difference between the pressure in the chamber minus the local atmospheric pressure. Under standard sea level conditions, the gauge pressure corresponding to 1.5 ATA is only about 7.35 psig. That is, a device marked 1.5 ATA, read with gauge pressure, would only have a few psi left at seven. The complete parameters cannot be represented by just one 1.5 ATA figure either, and one device should also indicate the normal operating pressure, the maximum permissible operating pressure and the set pressure of the pressure relief device.
Higher pressure does not automatically mean better fit or safer. Target pressures must be assessed together with the intended use, structural design, oxygen supply method, operating instructions, and professional supervision requirements. The 1.5 ATA is still below the 2.0 ATA threshold required for clinical hyperbaric oxygen. Based on the pressure figures alone, neither software nor hardware can be used as a clinical treatment module; the US market can query the 510(k) records of specific devices by product code CBF, and note that 510(k) cleared and FDA approved are two different things.
Finally, back to the usage scenario. The soft 1.5 ATA cabin needs to be operated according to the specific model instructions, continuously monitored by qualified personnel, and equipped with fire protection and grounding measures in a high-concentration oxygen environment; the hard cabin needs to verify the installation conditions and professional management requirements. When you compare pressure, structure, use and compliance status, the 1.5 ATA specification is truly selected and understood.
